Crown Prince Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands has been showing off his speed-skating skills in The Hague. After attending the opening of a new speed skating building, De Uithof, the athletic Dutch royal strapped on the skates and shared a few laps with local children.
The smiling prince, dressed in black competition tights and matching wind-breaker, was obviously no stranger to the sport as he glided gracefully around the rink. At times his young companions had trouble keeping up with their royal skating buddy, but they seemed to thoroughly enjoy the challenge of taking on the heir to the Dutch throne.
The 37-year-old royal has long been a keen sportsman and is frequently spotted cheering on the Netherlands at sporting events around the globe. He is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as well the Olympic Solidarity Commission, one of the IOC's permanent bodies.
