As photos taken by celebrity photographer Mario Testino are released to mark the occasion of his 21st birthday, Prince Harry has been speaking candidly about his affection for girlfriend Chelsy Davy and stepmother Camilla. In the interview, Prince Charles' younger son also told of his regrets over the Nazi uniform controversy that engulfed him earlier this year. The young royal didn't want to give too much away when asked about his leading lady, but he did confirm that his relationship with Chelsy is going from strength to strength. "I would love to tell everyone how amazing she is, but you know that is my private life," he said, adding: "I'm hugely protective (of her)."

He was also eager to dispel the notion his relationship with Camilla had been uneasy at times. Indeed Harry went out of his way to defend his new stepmum from the sometimes unsympathetic treatment she has received from the press. "She's always been very close to me and William, but no, she's not the wicked stepmother – I'll say that right now," he affirmed. "She's a wonderful woman and she's made our father very, very happy, which is the most important thing. William and I love her to bits."

The third-in-line, who has likewise suffered unfavourable publicity from time to time, went on to apologise for an incident earlier this year when he wore a Nazi officer's uniform to a fancy dress party. "Looking back on it now and at the time as well it was a very stupid thing to do," he confessed. "I've learnt my lesson, simple as that. I'm very sorry if I offended anyone."

Facing the challenges of military training at Sandhurst seems to be having an effect on the Prince, as he also expressed his willingness to fight on the frontline. Harry's other great passion is to continue on his mother's charity work and he is looking forward to the day when he can make that his number one priority.

But wherever the road ahead may take him, Harry can rely on his older brother to provide all the support and guidance he needs. "It's amazing how close we've become," revealed the royal. "He is the one person on Earth who I can really talk to about anything."
