Norway's little prince all set for first Christmas

Norway's royal family has been getting ready to lavish its newest member with plenty of Christmas gifts. Crown Prince Haakon and his wife Mette-Marit were photographed, along with their newborn baby boy, in front of the Christmas tree in Oslo's Royal Palace on Monday.

The shoot came just days after King Harald announced his new grandchild would be named Prince Sverre Magnus. And despite being the centre of everyone's attention, the bundle of joy seemed distinctly unfazed by all the fuss, dozing happily as the photographer got to work.

Two-year-old Princess Ingrid, with a quizzical look on her face, was meanwhile taking a keen interest in all the goings-on around her. Doting dad Haakon carried his daughter in his arms on Monday afternoon, while Mette-Marit's attention was wholly focussed on her sleepy son.

Next Sunday looks sure to be quite an event in the Royal Palace, with no less than five excited youngsters eagerly anticipating a visit from Father Christmas. Sverre Magnus and Ingrid will be joined by their older brother Marius, who's eight years old, and cousins Maud Angelica, two, and Leah Isadora, eight months, for the big day.
