Prince Charles and his wife Camilla were wearing matching clothes – and matching smiles, too – as they celebrated their first wedding anniversary on Sunday. The Duchess of Cornwall, sporting a tartan skirt and tweed jacket to go with her husband's kilt, was obviously delighted to be back in the Balmoral estate where she and her leading man spent their honeymoon 12 months ago.
The romantic couple marked the big day by returning to Crathie Parish Church, where they were greeted by a huge throng of well-wishers when they made their first public appearance together as man and wife. This time around there weren't quite so many people there to welcome them, but six-year-old Glaswegian Heather Stewart still managed to put a smile on the Duchess' face when she presented her with a bouquet of flowers.
"They said they were surprised by the amount of snow up here," revealed the youngster afterwards. "Charles joked that there was almost as much here as in Switzerland, where he's just been skiing."
Recent opinion polls show public feeling for Camilla, which was mixed before she married the future king, has been warming steadily ever since. And there can be no doubt about the affection she and her husband have for one another. Journalist Damian Whitworth, who joined the couple for their recent tour of India and the Middle East, says the pair are obviously deeply in love. "They're quite touching together," he said. "It's all 'darling this, darling that, oh darling you do that so nicely'. And it's really quite sweet."
