It was a fun-filled weekend for royal youngsters at opposite ends of the world, as the young princes and princesses of Belgium and Japan enjoyed some quality time with their loved ones. While little Princess Aiko sat in between her parents during a concert at her new school in Tokyo, Prince Philippe and his wife Princess Mathilde were spotted with their children, Elisabeth, Gabriel and Emmanuel, at the Holy Week processions in Spain.
The Japanese princess, who started Kindergarten earlier this month, seemed transfixed by the efforts of her new schoolmates as around 50 of the youngsters performed traditional songs like Zosan, or Elephant.
Aiko's parents went along to join their little girl for Gakushuin school's annual fair. And the outing no doubt brought back fond memories for dad Naruhito, as he played viola at the yearly event when he was a student there. The future emperor's four-year-old daughter opted for a somewhat less demanding challenge, by trying her hand at a fishing game in which small water-filled balloons were plucked from a large tank of water.
Many miles away in Europe, meanwhile, the Belgian royals were likewise taking in a musical performance. The brass bands accompanying giant religious floats through the streets of Caceres made for rather more sombre listening, but the family was clearly enjoying the colourful view from their balcony.
Elisabeth, five, stood alongside her three-year-old brother Gabriel, while the newest member of the family, baby Emmanuel, snuggled in his mother's arms. The family's old friend, Prince Constantin of Liechtenstein, was also there to witness the spectacle, along with his pretty wife Countess Maria and their children Moritz and Georgina.
The Spanish royals opted to head for the island of Majorca for the bank holiday weekend. And although the celebrations there were just as impressive, Crown Prince Felipe and Crown Princess Letizia's baby girl Leonor managed to steal the show.
