Prince Harry has spent the past year proving his mettle in all manner of tough physical challenges as he underwent military training at Sandhurst. The 21-year-old royal showed a rather more tender side to his personality on Thursday afternoon, though, when he was reunited with his little friend Mutsu Potsane in Lesotho.
The third-in-line, who graduated as an Second Lieutenant from the UK's most prestigious military academy just two weeks ago, has returned to the tiny African nation where he spent part of his gap year. And his first priority upon arriving in the country was to catch up with the young orphan who famously befriended him.
Harry visited the southern African kingdom twice during his year off and paid Mutsu another visit after his first term at Sandhurst. And the young Prince is now making good on his promise to follow in his mother Princess Diana's footsteps by doing all he can to help combat the Aids pandemic.
The British royal has decided to team up with Lesotho's Prince Seeiso, whose own mother Queen Mamohato died in 2003, to establish a new charity called Sentebale, which means "forget me not". The new organisation will provide long-term support to humanitarian programmes that might not otherwise attract international funding.
"Both our mothers were hugely connected with Aids, especially the orphaned children," explained Harry. "I wanted to carry on as best I could what she started and what better place than to do it than here? This is our place. We are starting with small projects. Most other charities are concentrating on other areas, so there is no one else. It is only us."
