Just a few weeks ago Monaco's Prince Albert was weathering the frozen landscape of the Arctic Circle as he became the first ever head of state to trek to the North Pole. On Monday afternoon, however, the intrepid royal was enjoying a rather more inviting environment as he and his older sister Princess Caroline helped inaugurate the Monte Carlo International Flower Show.
The sovereign, who acceded to the throne of his tiny homeland last year, is busy with state affairs these days so he doesn't get to spend quite so much time with his nearest and dearest as before. He was obviously delighted at the opportunity to spend some quality time with his elder sibling, showing his affection on several occasions by reaching out and tenderly touching her arm and back as they strolled through the gardens.
Caroline, looking elegant in a vintage-style white coat dress, meanwhile took a keen interest in many of the colourful blooms on display. And although her brother is better-known as a sport loving adventurer, it would be fair to say he is also a flower-friendly type as he's deeply committed to supporting environmental causes. Indeed his four-day trek across the icy tundras of northern Russia was undertaken in an effort to raise awareness of the effects of global warming.
