It was a busy day for Europe's queens on Wednesday. The British monarch was taking part in a service in Westminster Abbey while Queen Margrethe of Denmark displayed her artistic side in Florence and Sweden's Queen Silvia carried out an official charity visit.
Queen Elizabeth, who recently celebrated her 80th birthday, showed no signs of slowing down as she attended the Order of the Bath ceremony which dates back to medieval times. Dressed in full royal regalia of floor-length white lace dress, scarlet cloak and spectacular diamond tiara, she accompanied her son Prince Charles to the King Henry VII chapel where he installed seven new knights into the prestigious chivalric order.
In contrast to the solemn procession taking place in the Abbey, Queen Margrethe of Denmark was in relaxed mode as she opened her latest art exhibition, entitled Il sogno di una Regina, in Florence. The talented artist, wearing a bright buttercup yellow jacket, was all smiles as she presented her latest watercolours and drawings at the Stibbert museum.
Also away from her home country was Queen Silvia of Sweden who was in Latvia visiting a youth and orphan project. A patron of the rehabilitation facility since 1996, she clearly enjoyed catching up with staff and children, witnessing first-hand the work being done. The popular royal, who is a known for her tireless charity work, was presented with a beautiful bouquet of blooms which perfectly coordinated with her pink pashmina.
