Crown Princess Victoria travelled back in time to lead her country's National Day celebrations on Tuesday. Dressed in authentic folkdrakt, the traditional Swedish costume of a flower-embroidered pinafore over a white shirt, the pretty royal appeared before an enthusiastic crowd at a concert in Stockholm.
The laid-back Swedes aren't normally noted for their flag-waving fervour, but on this occasion the city's Skansen Park was awash with the national colours of blue and yellow. Although the day has been marked since 1983, it was only officially declared a public holiday last year.
Smiling broadly in the late afternoon sunshine and with a bunch of summer blooms in hand, the princess was clearly appreciative of well-wishers' efforts to turn out for the festivities.
Earlier on, the future queen also gave a warm welcome to the knot of supporters who'd gathered outside the royal palace to greet her. Accompanied by her younger brother Prince Carl Philip, Victoria shook hands with onlookers and accepted posies, before changing into national dress to make her way to the musical performance by horse-drawn carriage.
