As she leaves home in the Californian city of Palm Desert, Jazmin Grace Rotolo looks like any American teenager on her way to school. Only the bodyguard by the youngster's side reveals anything about her status as the daughter of a European prince.
Only a few weeks ago the 14-year-old was living a life of anonymity, but she is now very much in the spotlight after the Monegasque sovereign, Prince Albert confirmed she is his child.
Jazmin's March 4, 1992, birth certificate identified Albert Alexandre Louis Pierre of Monaco as her father. The girl, who bears the name of the late Princess Grace, was conceived after her mum, Tamara Rotolo, had a brief liaison with the royal while holidaying on the Cote d'Azur.
In 1992, Tamara began the lengthy legal process to get paternity established in the US, but a judge dismissed the suit, ruling California courts had no jurisdiction in the case, which was finally resolved last month.
Although media reports described her as a former waitress, Tamara now sells real estate. Jazmin's grandfather, retired car factory worker Sam Rotolo, told reporters the family has known the prince was her father since she was born and that the prince has provided financial support for the young girl.
