The Prince of Wales' country loving wife is never more at ease than on engagements that bring her face-to-face with the natural world. Over the past year the Duchess of Cornwall has met a veritable Noah's Ark of animals including goats and donkeys. And this weekend it was a camel named Theresa who got the benefit of some royal attention at an 18th-century Wiltshire estate.

Camilla had been invited by Theresa's owner, her friend Lady Lansdowne, who is the chateleine of Bowood House, to open the proceedings at the Dog Show and Country Fair held in its grounds. Dressed for the heat in a cool white blouse and elegant green and white patterned skirt, the royal stopped to admire the exotic resident, who'd been decked with bright yellow decorations and a red embroidered cloth.

Accompanied by daughter Laura and her Jack Russells, Tosca and Rosie, Camilla then went on to present the most heroic dog award. The proud recipient of the prize was a border cross collie called Heidi, who was injured in an accident and now walks with a limp.

During the visit the Duchess also spent time chatting with TV personality Ben Fogle, who presents the BBC show One Man And His Dog. Proceeds from the event will go to Macmillan Cancer Support, the charity whose nurses cared for Lady Lansdowne's late father in his last weeks.
