Prince William had his hands full with two younger fans when he returned to the hospital where he was born this week. The second-in-line was clearly delighted with the experience after a proud mum at St Mary's Hospital in West London offered him the chance to hold her new twin babies.

Three-week-old Sina Nuru, who was wearing a vest emblazoned with the words "Little Princess", was the first to make his acquaintance. "She's very nice and calm," said the statuesque royal as the infant slept soundly in his arms. "She's so sweet - she's only slightly bigger than my hand."

Next it was her brother Sem's turn to meet the future king of England. The adorable little one seemed equally unflustered by his brush with royalty, barely opening his eyes to acknowledge the VIP guest.

The Prince, who had gone along to open a newly refurbished neo-natal unit, drew comparisons to his mother when he met parents at the paediatric intensive care unit which Princess Diana likewise visited back in 1997. "He did extremely well and was very compassionate," said Dr Peter Chow, who was at his side throughout the tour.

Indeed the only awkward moment came when reporters asked him if the visit was making him feel broody. The 24-year-old blushed visibly as he replied: "Broody? I don't know about that – not yet."
