At just 24 he could be forgiven for not knowing what career direction he'd like to take. But as the future king, Prince William's life is already fairly well mapped out. That hasn't, however, stopped the handsome young royal, who has said he doesn't want to be "mollycoddled", from asserting has own game plan for the next few years.
In an announcement by Clarence House, his father's official London residence, the Prince has revealed he plans to serve alongside his younger brother Harry in the Blues and Royals regiment when he graduates from Sandhurst military academy in December.
As future Prince of Wales he was expected by many to choose the Welsh Guards, but he has asserted his preference after clearly being impressed by Harry's experience in the Household Cavalry regiment. Like his sibling, he will be trained in everything from leading troops in an armoured reconnaissance unit to ceremonial duties. After 12 months he is then due to complete attachments in the RAF and Royal Navy in preparation for his future role as head of the Armed Forces.
While Prince Harry is very much a career-soldier who may see action on the front line, William is not expected to be deployed to combat zones, "Obviously we have to take into account his future role," said one aide. "The prince will also aim to address the wider issues of preparing himself for his future roles - learning more about constitutional matters, charitable work and estate management," said the official announcement.
