In Hamburg this week to celebrate 100 years of Norwegian representation in the German city, Crown Princess Mette-Marit gained some pint-sized fans among the local residents.
And the Scandinavian princess was clearly charmed when a five-year-old schoolgirl called Ida presented her with a bouquet of flowers to mark the occasion. Crown Prince Haakon's pretty wife, chic in a matching white ensemble, crouched down to chat with the youngster for several minutes.
Mette-Marit also took time out to speak with eight-year-old Cornelia Rosenkilde, who had likewise gone along to meet her. And the royal mother-of-three managed to make just as warm an impression on Hamburg's dignitaries when she opened her home country's new consular offices in the heart of the city.
The 33-year-old was no doubt relieved that her first official visit to Germany went without hitch. She was supposed to make a trip to the country in 2002, but had to cancel her plans at the last minute after suffering burns from the lights of an over-zealous German TV crew who had travelled to Norway to interview her.
