Despite the formality of the day's proceedings, there was time for a tender kiss between King Abdullah of Jordan and Queen Rania at Tuesday's opening of Parliament in Amman. The monarch had earlier put on a regal display as he reviewed a guard of honour.
The popular royal couple - who have four children together - will no doubt be pleased to be back on home soil after their recent globe-trotting. This month the hard-working pair have travelled to the Netherlands, London and Kuwait.
Jordan's king and queen are known for their joint commitment to peace in the Middle East and have been tireless in their efforts to promote international relations.
It was no surprise to see 36-year-old Rania playing a supportive role at her husband's side this week, as she and the king make a devoted team. One of the world's youngest queens, Rania has a unique role in the Jordanian royal household and, with Abdullah's backing, has earned a high profile on the international stage tackling issues close to her heart.
Next on the agenda is the couple's first state visit to India at the end of November. Rania will accompany her husband on the three-day trip to bolster relations and meet top political figures including Sonia Gandhi.
