Princes William and Harry have confirmed that a celebrity concert is to be held to mark the tenth anniversary of their mother's death. The star-studded event will take place on July 1, when Princess Diana would have turned 46. "It's got to be the best birthday present she ever had," says William.
The brothers are organising Concert for Diana at the new Wembley stadium, and have already signed up a host of showbiz names. These include some of their mother's favourite artists such as Sir Elton John and Duran Duran - as well as a few of theirs, like Joss Stone and hip-hop star Pharrell Williams.
"We both wanted to put our stamp on it, we want to represent exactly what our mother would have wanted," says William in an interview hosted on the Concert For Diana website, adding they were both determined to remember her in a "fun way".
The programme will also feature a performance by the English National Ballet and a special medley of songs from the West End, reflecting Diana's love of dance and musical theatre. Asked if he would be dancing, too, William joked it would be a "terrifying sight" but promised he and his younger brother would be making an appearance on stage.
Proceeds from the concert will go to some of Diana's favourite good causes, as well as two of the Princes' own charities, Centrepoint and Sentable - of which they are patrons.
A church memorial service for the late Princess will also be held on August 31. "The service is going to include both sides of the family, our mother's side and our father's side - everyone getting together," promises Harry. "It should be a good occasion and lots of loud hymns, I Vow To Thee My Country, all the good ones."
Tickets for the concert go on sale at 9am on Wednesday, December 13.
