Looking every inch the perfectly poised royal couple, Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik welcomed the New Year in style at a family dinner in Copenhagen.
Dressed in a luxurious deep burgundy velvet dress, Mary, who is expecting her second child in the summer, was looking particularly stunning, her gorgeous gown accessorised with a dramatic diamond and ruby necklace, plus matching earrings.
One interesting additional decoration worn by the Tasmanian former marketing executive was a gold chain bearing a miniature elephant. The pendant, similar to those worn by other members of the Danish Royal family, symbolises the Order of the Elephant, one of Denmark's oldest and most distinguished honours. Mary and Frederik were also sporting matching star brooches, the mark of the Order of the Dannebrog, of which the handsome crown prince is a Grand Commander.
Looking equally striking in an emerald green satin gown was Mary's mother-in-law Queen Margrethe. The royal matriarch was clearly relishing the traditional New Year's day family gathering, and smiled happily as she greeted crowds outside Amalienborg Castle.
