President Nicolas Sarkozy's whirlwind courtship of Italian beauty Carla Bruni is proof Frenchmen know a thing or two about wooing the fairer sex. And the Gaelic charmer apparently employs trusted tactics when he's really swept away.
After love struck over dinner with the former model on November 23, the politician wooed Carla with daily phone calls and bouquets of roses.
He also presented her with a pair of exquisite rose coloured sparklers from Dior. Mr Sarkozy's romantic gesture has raised eyebrows in France, since his ex-wife Cecilia wears a heart-shaped ring strikingly similar to one of the love tokens he gave Carla.
The former first lady also has one of the fashion house's white gold and pink tourmaline 'Cupidon' designs, which was the gift chosen by the French premier for his new girlfriend along with a 'Coeur Romantique' ring, also from the Dior jewellery collection.
He is unlikely to be moved by the controversy, though. In a press conference at his Elysee Palace residence the 52-year-old said the relationship is "serious" and suggested the couple would soon marry.
