There was colour, dance and music in spades as Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall marked the Hindu festival of Holi, which celebrates the arrival of spring and the beauty associated with spring blossoms and the colour they bring.

The royal couple made a special trip to the Swaminarayan School in north-west London, where they visited the adjoining temple to watch school children enact a festival tradition in which participants throw coloured powder and water at each other.

Charles - who this week was voted world's best dressed man by men's style bible Esquire - and his wife joined in the fun but were spared having their clothes covered in dye, instead throwing flower petals over the powder-covered youngsters once their display was over.

When Camilla arrived at the school, senior members of the community added a Chandlo – a traditional mark, placed on the forehead, which protects its wearer
