If anyone can carry off a black tie appearance on a pair of crutches then it's Denmark's dashing Crown Prince Frederik. Despite wearing a cast following an operation on his leg last week, the royal pulled off the look with a touch of panache and lots of humour at a gala in Copenhagen.
Of course, it helped that the prince, who had surgery after breaking his leg during a recent family skiing holiday, had had some elegant companionship in the form of his wife Mary. As ever she was breathtakingly regal in a full-length purple gown and tiara.
The couple were joined by Frederik's brother Joachim and his heavily pregnant wife Marie, also in a stunning midnight shade, and his parents, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik.
The cast will stay on for a further five weeks after he fractured his calf bone while riding a sleigh with the couple's children during a snow break in February. He apparently failed to notice the injury until returning from a boating competition in Miami earlier this month.
