With only a month left to go before the arrival of the newest addition to the Danish royal family, mum-to-be Princess Marie is on blooming form. All eyes were on Prince Joachim of Denmark's wife - and her baby bump – as the 33-year-old joined her husband and other members of the royal family at a parade to mark the 60th anniversary of the country's Home Guard in Denmark.

With their strong links to the military and the Home Guards in particular, it was bound to be a significant event for the family. Joining her husband Crown Prince Frederik in donning military uniform for the event was Tasmania-born Crown Princess Mary, who – after undergoing officer training - was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in the voluntary military unit.

In undertaking training, Mary followed in the footsteps of other members of the royal family, including Prince Joachim - who remains active in the defence reserves as a major - and his mother Queen Margrethe. The monarch, who was also present at the march, rose to the rank of major in an earlier form of the Air Force Home Guard.

Frederik has also completed extensive military training in the naval, armed and air forces, most notably the arduous training required to be a member of the Frogman Corps - the elite naval special forces.
