One of the latest high-profile adoptees of Twitter, Queen Rania of Jordan has been giving a fascinating insight into her life through the microblogging website. This week she 'tweeted' about welcoming Pope Benedict XVI, who's just started an eight-day pilgrimage to the Middle East.
"Taking kids 2 meet Pope, just convinced eldest 2 wear suit. Now negotiating with my 4 yr old!" wrote the mother-of-four, who describes herself on the site as "a mum and wife with a really cool day job".
"Always wanted 2 give them 'normal' upbringing free of pomp and protocol. Kinda wish they'd get with the protocol now! Fingers crossed!" added King Abdullah II's wife, who's mum to Prince Hussein, 14, 12-year-old Princess Iman, Princess Salma, eight, and four-year-old Prince Hashem.
It would seem even queens have to compromise when it comes to their children, though, and despite her best efforts Rania could not coax her youngest into more formal attire for the meeting. Posting a picture on her Twitter page of herself with Hashem, the royal wrote: "As u can c, my 4 yr old beat me at negotiating table re suit, but as trade-off, impeccable behaviour! So proud!"
The techno-savvy queen – she launched her own internet channel on YouTube last year – also shared further background to the arrival of the Catholic leader. "Just choppered to airport to receive Pope. Husband piloting, he got acrobatic to quiet butterflies in stomach : ) told u he was action man!"
Prior to welcoming the German pontiff - who was arrived on his first visit to an Arab country on Friday - the couple spent the previous evening chilling out together Rania reveals. "Wkend begins for us watching Matthew McConaughey in Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past. Glad I'm not single. It's vicious out there!" the 38-year-old wrote, adding: "Must make sure my son doesn't watch this movie; on the other hand, maybe he should?!".
