Despite living in a city that is home to some of the world's most stylish ladies, New Yorkers can still have their heads turned by European regal elegance every so often.

This week Charlene Wittstock - Prince Albert of Monaco's elegant companion - was the jewel in the crown of an awards ceremony in the Big Apple founded in the name of his mother Princess Grace.

On the arm of her prince, the 31-year-old dazzled in a shimmering slate grey dress strewn with crystals and featuring an unusual medieval-style belt detail. Once an Olympic swimmer, who didn't have much time to spare for fashion, the attractive South African is developing a reputation for chic dressing through her association with Giorgio Armani.

"(His team) knows what I like and what suits me," she said recently. "Whatever the occasion I like to feel natural". Also representing the glamorous young royal contingent in the Big Apple was Princess Madeleine of Sweden.

Newly-engaged and glowing with happiness, the 27-year-old was the belle of the ball at a fundraising affair for a foundation established by her mother Queen Silvia. Though her handsome fiancé, lawyer Jonas Bergstrom couldn't be there, Madeleine was still on sparkling form as she supported her mother.
