The Danish royal family's group photo, taken just before the announcement of Crown Princess Mary's pregnancy, radiated their joy at being together for the summer. However, two members were notably missing from this cheerful family gathering: Princes Nikolai and Felix, the eight-year-old sons of Mary's brother-in-law, Joachim. Presumably, they were with their mother, Alexandra, Countess of Frederikborg, as the boys have been sharing their time between their divorced parents since 2005.
Joachim, a devoted father, chose to spend part of his holiday with them at Denmark's National Open Museum, which showcases village life from 1500 to 1900. This outing provided royal enthusiasts a glimpse of how the young princes are maturing. Nikolai, ten, bears his mother's darker features and lively personality, while Felix, his eight-year-old brother, has an angelic appearance.
Fifth and sixth in line to the throne, following their uncle Frederik and his children, the young princes visibly enjoyed their museum visit. They had the opportunity to experience riding in a traditional carriage, stilt-walking, and even cooking their own meals over an open fire.
What likely added to the fun was Joachim's active participation. Dressed smartly in a jacket and tie, he enthusiastically joined in the activities, trying out stilts and riding an old-fashioned bicycle, much to the delight and amusement of his sons.
