After helping his brother bid farewell to single life, Prince Harry has put his action man hat on. The third-in-line to the throne has arrived in Norway to join a team of wounded servicemen trekking to the North Pole.
He will complete three days of training before heading out into the frozen wasteland on Friday. The 26-year-old will be with the group for the first five days of the trek, which is expected to take four weeks and cover up to 200 miles.
The men will face icy conditions on the walk, temperatures of up to minus 60C. The expedition is in aid of Walking with the Wounded, a charity for which Harry is patron. The group hope to raise £2 million for the organisation with their trip.
Harry told men's magazine GQ: "This extraordinary expedition will raise awareness of the debt that this country owes to those it sends off to fight.
"These men and women have given so much." Leading the expedition is Inge Soldheim, an expert in arctic conditions. He said of the Prince: "Harry's training has been going very well - he has the right attitude. I'm sure Harry has healthy concerns about the dangers, as he should."
He explained: "You have no idea how different the Pole is from everything else on the planet.
"It is unpredictable. Deadly… You can walk 10 miles in one day, pitch your tent overnight, and the ice will have drifted you back 11 miles in the opposite direction."
