Earlier this month, Prince Harry joined a group of wounded servicemen for four days on the first leg of a trek to the Artic. And now the team - who were raising money for the charity Walking with the Wounded - are celebrating their arrival at the North Pole.
Harry, who was not able to complete the whole trek due to military commitments, was the first to congratulate them via satellite phone. The 26-year-old joked that his team mates were "showing off" after they completed the challenge, three days ahead of schedule despite a three-day delay to the start of the expedition. "I'm thrilled that the guys have made it – what an awesome achievement," he added. "They should be incredibly proud, as we are proud of them. I took part in only a small section of the trek, but know full well how physically demanding it was.
"The spirit and determination of those lads is second to none." The group of amputees trekked for 13 days and covered 190 miles. Upon their arrival at the North Pole, they toasted the Queen with a bottle of champagne. And the expedition spokesman said their determination "shows that injuries need not be a barrier to living a full, rewarding life". They aim to raise £2 million for Walking with the Wounded, which supports injured soldiers.
