Since her official step into the royal circle on Friday, she has become one of the most famous faces in the world. But a dressed-down Duchess of Cambridge proved she is still happy to do the weekly errands on Thursday, mingling with fellow shoppers like any other housewife. Wearing a loose green shrug paired with a white sweatshirt and skinny jeans, a smiling Kate pushed her own trolley in Waitrose on Anglesey.

Onlookers speculated that the 29-year-old was buying groceries to prepare a special dinner for her new husband, who returned the same morning from a gruelling 24-hour shift. One recalled: "It looked like she was stocking up on the basics, but she also bought a few special items, so perhaps she was preparing their first romantic meal as a married couple. "She loaded all the shopping into her car on her own, then skipped as she ran the trolley back to the park. "She looked very happy and was smiling at people." This public appearance was the first for Kate since she and Prince William swiftly retired from the public eye – following their highly-publicised nuptials - for a weekend break. It was back to normality for the Duke of Cambridge also, who had completed his first day back at work as a search and rescue helicopter pilot.

The shift proved to be hectic, and almost as soon as the 28-year-old went on duty, he and his team were required to attend to two different emergencies.

One involved rescuing a 70-year-old man who had suffered a heart attack whilst climbing a mountain in Snowdonia National Park. And shortly after, the four-man crew were sent to rescue an off-duty policeman from Snowdon who developed vertigo on his way down from the highest mountain in Wales.
