Another High Street style triumph for Kate

Now hailed as a role model for young women, the Duchess of Cambridge is clearly making an effort to embody an image that's accessible to those who admire her. Having worn a simple Zara dress to leave Buckingham Palace the day after her wedding, Kate continues to champion the High Street. The newest member of the royal family was the picture of poise in a 'bandage' dress by Reiss when she met America's first lady Michelle Obama – during the  US state visit to Britain.

Having worn a white dress from Reiss for her official engagement photographs, the chain is clearly a favourite of the new Duchess.

And her most recent creation from the store in on-trend nude colour cost a purse-friendly £170. News of her patronage meant the dress promptly sold out – as has been the case with many of Kate's High Street choices – and the sharp rise in traffic crashed the store's website. First lady Michelle, meanwhile, arrived wearing a dress thought to carry a price tag of over £1,400. The floral, Fifties style swing-dress was paired with a pink structured, swing-back jacket, both by one of her favourite designers, New York-based Barbara Tfank. Michelle then met prime minster's wife Samantha Cameron, who is an ambassador for the British Fashion Council, also sporting an outfit which was miles removed from Kate's bargain buy.

Samantha's embroidered silk graphic-print dress by Peter Pilotto is available in London's Harvey Nichols for £2,435. Michelle had changed outfit for the fashion face-off between the style queens, now honouring her host country with a dress by British designer Roksanda Ilincic. The vibrant purple wool-crepe dress, which comes in at £815, was paired with a cobalt coat by New York designer Narciso Rodriguez. The total cost of her outfit no doubt amounted to thousands. But despite the varying price tags, all three ladies held their own in the style stakes and each looked fabulous.
