Wedding fever has hit the streets of Edinburgh.

Early on Saturday, members of the public had already begun to gather along the Royal Mile, eager to secure their spot on the stretch of road road between Canongate Kirk and Holyroodhouse.

Celebrating Scotland's first royal marriage in two decades, the excitement is palpable on the streets of the capital.

Zara and Mike's informal and excited approach to their big day seems to have rubbed off on the local people, already in high spirits ahead of the 3pm ceremony.

Flags and congratulatory messages have been hung out from neighbouring houses, while many of the well wishers have arrived with banners in support of the happy couple.

There are, of course, some fans who have journeyed from further afield to join the excited Scottish contingent. Jackie travelled from Yorkshire to share in the happy event. "I just love anything to do with the royal family," she said. "I'm a big fan, I have great respect for them. "Another well-wisher, Margaret, made the trip from Winoma in Canada to take part in the celebrations.

"I've come to all the royal weddings since Princess Anne and Mark Phillips' wedding," she said." I like to come to the weddings and all the royal occasions that I can because the Queen is Queen of Canada. "While all eyes will be on the bride and groom, the crowds are eagerly anticipating the arrival of other British royals, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – known in Scotland as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn – and the Queen and Prince Philip.

Another favourite, Prince Harry is also in the Scottish capital. The 26-year-old royal is a big hit with the wedding well-wishers – and also with the guests, it seems. He received a big cheer when he arrived on board the Britannia for the celebratory cocktail party on Friday evening.
