Hats off to Charles and Camilla: fun-loving couple visit South Africa

November 3, 2011

Countless column inches are devoted to the chemistry between Prince William and Kate. But they're not the only royal couple whose devotion to each other and sense of fun shines through.

The couple were clearly relishing each other's company – and having a good old giggle – as they visited South Africa. While her laughing husband looked on, Camilla beamed as she tried on a traditional Zulu headdress in the township of Soweto, Johannesburg. Charles seemed in high spirits too as he chatted to locals. The couple are on a five day tour of South Africa before heading to Tanzania for four days. They will be highlighting environmental and social issues during their visit. During the five years the pair have been married, Camilla is credited to bringing a joie de vivre to the couple's relationship. And on their public engagements, a shared laugh never seems to be far away.

Camilla also brought a more gentle touch to what many regard as her husband's often brisk manner. He has become increasingly tactile in his public life – as demonstrated when the royal was photographed comforting riot victims this summer. And at the royal wedding in April there was a particularly touching scene when the Prince of Wales lifted up little Eliza Lopes, his wife's granddaughter, to give her a better look at the scene below Buckingham Palace.

The enduring love story of Charles and Camilla
