Kate Middleton wears Greek gown at charity dinner

November 11, 2011

As they sweep through the reception doors at St James's Palace, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge look every inch the glamorous couple that have enchanted the public. But the world’s favourite newlyweds must have been keenly aware that next year they’ll be spending six weeks apart – the longest time that they’ve been separated since their engagement.

This week, the Ministry of Defence announced the details of the royal helicopter pilot’s deployment to the Falklands. Flight Lieutenant Wales, as the Prince is known in the military, will be based at the Mount Pleasant RAF base to save sailors who run into trouble at sea. While they're still together, though, Kate is making the most of their time.

On Thursday night, she was the epitome of elegance in a sleek, silver Jenny Packham gown. Her stunning Greek goddess look, which revealed one shoulder and was delicately gather around her waist, was in honour of a charity dinner she hosted alongside her husband.  Her glossy curls were left loose around her shoulders and the look was completed with a poppy for Remembrance Day.

The couple were hosting the soiree for the National Memorial Arboretum. William is patron of the organisation that hopes to raise £12 million to turn the Arboretum, which honours those who have sacrificed their lives for their country, into a world-renowned centre for remembrance.

Just this week, the Duke stepped into the dispute over England players wearing poppies during a game on Sunday. In his role as FA Chairman, he wrote to FIFA to express his disappointment that the team were not going to be allowed to wear the symbols in England's friendly against Spain.

Thanks to his intervention, the ban has now been lifted and St James's Palace said he was "happy at the victory for common sense".
