Did William surprise Kate with earrings for Christmas?

December 28, 2011

Her first Christmas in the fold of the royal family drew huge crowds at Sandringham. And the Duchess of Cambridge was on dazzling form as she greeted well-wishers outside St Mary Magdalene Church. Helping her sparkle were a pair of diamond drop earrings that are rumoured to be a gift from Prince Willliam. Made of 18-carat gold and costing £1,900, the gems are the creation of Kiki McDonough – who also designed jewellery for the Prince's late mother, Princess Diana.

"I once counted Princess Diana as one of my most loyal customers and we always had such fun choosing designs for her to wear – she took great pleasure in wearing my jewellery" Kiki told Vogue. "It is a very special added extra that Catherine now enjoys wearing my designs too". Kate is a firm fan of the brand and it's not the first time she has opted for their jewels. She also owns a pair of white topaz studs which were on display as she toured Canada and the US during the summer. A pair of gold hoops with pear-shaped drops was her choice as she made her first official appearance in Anglesey in February.
