Marie and Joachim of Denmark welcome a little princess

January 24, 2012

When his wife announced she was pregnant last year, Prince Joachim admitted: "With three boys already, I would like a little girl".  Now, the Danish royal's wish has come true as he and French-born Marie welcome a little princess into the family.

The palace has revealed that their daughter was born on Tuesday with the proud dad present and tipped the scales at 6lb 5oz pounds.

In line with Danish royal tradition, the child's name won't be revealed until her christening ceremony takes place. Joachim is Queen Margrethe's youngest son, and the new arrival means he's now a father of four like his elder brother Frederik – who has two boys and two girls with his wife Mary.

Marie's little girl will be a playmate for her and Joachim's two-year-old son Henrik, named after his paternal grandfather, and Nikolai and Felix, the prince's sons from his previous marriage to Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg.
