Prince Harry to man the finish line at this year's London Marathon

April 18, 2012

Prince Harry is no stranger to athletics, as he showed when he 'successfully' took on Usain Bolt during his Diamond Jubilee tour of the Caribbean. And now he will play a more official role when he hands out the trophies to the winners of this year's London Marathon.

The young royal will be waiting for the first three finishers in the men's and women's races – and also those taking part in the wheelchair events. His presence has caused a ripple of excitement among organisers with race director David Bedford saying: "We are delighted to have Prince Harry with us to present awards to our runners this year." "He is a great supporter of the event and it is especially fitting to have a royal presence during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee year."

Harry's participation in the Marathon is just one of many sports-themed events lined up in his schedule for this year. He has also been named as an ambassador for the 2012 Olympic Games, along with his brother Prince William and his sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge. The trio will welcome the Olympic torch when it passes through Buckingham Palace on July 26th – one day before the highly anticipated opening ceremony.
