Plain sailing for royal visitors in Burnley

It was certainly a different way to greet well-wishers.The Queen, joined by Prince Philip and Prince Charles, waved to cheering crowds in Burnley from the deck of a barge.The trio were in Lancashire to mark the Diamond Jubilee, and Charles had an extra special reason for coming along.Six of his charities have worked on regenerating the town – and the heir to the throne is a secret fan of Burnley Football Club.

The monarch, Prince Phillip and Prince Charles float through Burnley town centre.

The Queen described her "great pride" in seeing the improvements to the town, helped by the work of her son's charities.

Hundreds of well-wishers – several waving Union flags – lined the towpaths to greet the royal visitors.

A guard of honour of Sea Cadets welcome the Queen to Burnley as part of her Diamond Jubilee tour of the country.

After the river tour the party took in a tour of Burnley College and the University of Central Lancashire.
