Regal splendour from global guests at Buckingham Palace

May 19, 2012

Although just about every monarch in the world had been invited and the venue was Windsor Castle the lunch hosted by the Queen on Friday had been relatively informal. So when her guests moved on to Buckingham Palace that evening for a soiree presided over by Prince Charles, full on regal glamour was in order, with long evening gowns and exotic kaftans on display.

Accompanied by the Duchess of Cornwall, and his two brothers, Edward and Andrew, the heir to the throne laid on a dazzling black tie gala attended by kings, emirs, a grand duke and one emperor.Camilla was the epitome of royal chic in a turquoise floor-length gown, very similar to the Elie Saab creation that the Grand-Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg had picked out for the occasion.Jordan's fashion forward Queen Rania looked as elegant as ever in a figure-hugging monochrome ensemble.

Moroccan princess Lalla Meryem, representing her brother King Mohammed, did her country proud in a sophisticated silver kaftan.Meanwhile, Princess Charlene of Monaco stuck to pastel colours. The new royal changed out of the pretty mint green suit she'd been wearing during the day into a floor-sweeping pink dress for the Palace do.VIP guests were treated to a delicious cheese soufflé and sea bass.
