Would you be prepared to give just 60 minutes of your time to help others and, in doing so, honour the Queen in her Diamond Jubilee year?TV favourite Katy Hill is among several celebrities who's teamed up with HELLO! and the Prince of Wales in a campaign encouraging people to volunteer. "Life is so hectic, and it's easy to get carried along on the rollercoaster ride and not take the time to look around and enjoy the view," says Katy.
"We need to encourage each other on this crazy journey, and giving an hour is such a positive thing to do, and such a great way to celebrate the Jubilee Year," adds the former Blue Peter presenter, who used her amazing bicycle to do the school run for other parents (pictured).The Jubilee Hour invites people to undertake 60 minutes of volunteer service – or an act of goodwill – to mark Her Majesty's 60 years of service to the nation.Prince Charles' charity guru, John O'Brien, is spearheading the campaign, and told HELLO! the heir to the throne thinks it's a "splendid idea, and wishes it every success. "Organisers hope it will be the biggest volunteer effort since the Second World War Nearly 600,000 hours have been pledged so far.
Kristina Rihanoff, Joan Collins, Joe Calzaghe, Nick Knowles, Sharron Davies and the Duchess of Cambridge's hairdresser James Pryce have all lent their support. "The simplicity of giving 60 minutes' service to recognise the Queen's 60 years' service has resonated across all aspects of British society," says John, a former army officer who has spent the last 12 years working with the Prince of Wales's charities.
"From the Air Cadets to Barclays Bank, from Muslim Aid to IBM, we have bankers, girl guides, policemen, cadets, schoolchildren and politicians all demonstrating their respect for Her Majesty. "This is completely voluntary. You can clean your street, help a neighbour; you can work as a family, club or community. Who can seriously say they cannot find 60 minutes over the course of the year?"
