Understated chic rules royal fashion parade

June 5, 2012

Fashionably attired in Alexander McQueen, the Duchess of Cambridge was a clear style leader at the service of thanksgiving for the Queen's reign. It was a hat trick for the fashion house’s creative director Sarah Burton, who dressed Kate in a standout scarlet for the River Pageant and also provided the black coat she wore over her Whistles dress at the Jubilee Concert. On Tuesday, Kate was flawless in the long-sleeved shift, which showed off her willowy figure.

The intricate lace overlay jazzed up the otherwise pared-down piece that was teamed with her signature LK Bennett heels. However, Kate wasn’t the only fabulously dressed royal commanding attention in St Paul’s Cathedral.Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie had perfected the art of understated chic, turning up in simple yet stunning berry-hued ensembles.Bea was regal in a cornflower blue Kinder Aggugini coat dress and a Stephen Jones hat.And Eugenie was pretty in a purple satin Suzannah dress, and also accessorised Stephen Jones headgear. The Countess of Wessex, who has stepped up her game recently, looked impeccable in a navy blue skirt suit with cut-out lace panels that was spot on.

Led by the Prime Minister's wife, Samantha Cameron, the political partners were also putting their best fashion foot forward.British fashion ambassador Samantha normally steers clear of headwear. But this time she followed tradition and topped off her Paul Smith floral dress with a chic pill box hat, once again by Stephen Jones.Miriam Clegg, the wife of Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg cut a colourful figure with her bright fuchsia shift dress. And Ed Miliband's wife Justine was flying the flag for Britain a red, white and blue ensemble.
