Royal life going swimmingly for Princess Charlene

June 11, 2012

Princess Charlene of Monaco never looks more enthused than when she's at a sporting event. And the former Olympic swimmer seemed particularly keen to meet athletes at the Mare Nostrum competition in the principality this weekend. The event holds tender memories for her as it's where Cupid struck for her and Prince Albert over ten years ago.

"It was incredibly flattering," she told Vanity Fair. "After seeing me swim, Albert asked my management for permission to take me out. We spent the whole evening laughing and talking." Since then they have become one of the most talked about royal couples in the world, and the South African athlete has a title and many more jewels and designer clothes to her name.

But their shared passion for sports remains unchanged. "We both become very emotional watching the athletes. Sport is the common denominator of our lives," she told the magazine.
