Puppy love: William showers Lupo with affection at the polo

June 18, 2012

It's not often the Duchess of Cambridge has to vie for her husband's attention. But Prince William was busy showering someone else with affection as the husband and wife team attended the polo at the weekend.

Kate had nothing to worry about, however, as the recipient of the future King's kisses was the couple's cute Cocker Spaniel Lupo.

William, who turns 30 on June 21, couldn't resist a cuddle with the six-month old puppy after competing in a charity match on the final day of the Gloucestershire Festival of Polo, at the Beaufort Polo Club. The Prince had been helping raise money for children's charities Well Child, Child Bereavement and Tusk Trust, a conservation charity he supports. Other royals at the event included Prince Harry, Zara Phillips and her husband  Mike Tindall and Autumn Phillips, who brought along her daughters Savannah and Isla Elizabeth.

Eighteen-month-old Savannah was captivated by Lupo, and Kate showed her how to hold the dog's lead. Lupo was a present from the Duchess' mother Carole Middleton, who breeds Spaniels. The palace at first declined to reveal the dog's name, but Kate spilled the beans to primary school children on a visit to Oxford.
