Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and her family have been through some testing times of late. Her son, Prince Johan Friso, continues to fight for his life in a coma following a skiing accident.
But the Dutch royals put their personal tragedy to one side as they joined together to celebrate a family wedding.
The sovereign watched proudly as her niece, Caroline of Bourbon-Parma, married fashion heir Albert Brenninkmeijer in Florence, Italy. Caroline is the youngest daughter of the queen's sister, Irene. Now an extended member of the House of Orange-Nassau, Albert is already well versed in society life. His family founded international clothing chain C&A and are considered to be one of the richest in Europe.
Also sharing the couple's joy were Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and his wife Maxima, who was the epitome of elegance in a sheer beige top and feather detail skirt. Johan Friso's activist wife Mabel was also present. Her bright smile showed that the constant support of her husband's family – particularly sister-in-law Maxima – is helping her through these difficult times.
