Marie and Mary channel flower power for regal garden party

June 20, 2012

The last time the Danish royal family gathered in the grounds of Fredensborg Castle, they were decked out in a series of colourful outfits. This time around, however, they were all in sync, sartorially speaking.Princess Marie was on top form at the garden party thrown in aid of Volunteer Denmark.

Just five months after welcoming her daughter with husband Prince Joachim, the brunette showed off her long legs and sylph-like figure in a navy summer dress. Her sister-in-law Mary – equally stunning in an airy floral number – was effortlessly charming as she chatted with guests gathered in the grounds of the castle. Queen Margrethe and her French husband Henrik – who was nursing an injured arm – were also present.

The garden party is the perfect warm up for the summer season – one of the sovereign's favourite moments in her schedule. Each year, she gathers the entire family at their sprawling summer retreat, Grasten Castle, in the south of Denmark.
