Princess Letizia on mummy duty ahead of 40th birthday

September 14, 2012

Unfazed by any first day nerves Spanish Princesses Leonor and Sofia were dropped off at school on Friday by their pround parents Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia, who turns 40 tomorrow. The birthday girl looked smart and chic in a cream blazer and grey trousers as her adorable daughters returned to Santa Maria de los Rosales school in Madrid, where Felipe previously studied for twelve years.

Leonor, six, and Sofía, five, looked happy and excited on what is a big day for any youngster. The two sported their navy blue uniform and matching blue backpacks, as well as both wearing their blonde hair in a cute side plait. Minutes before, at 9am, the girls had arrived at the school in a car driven by their father. The family then held hands as the young royals led their parents to the school gates and waved to reporters.

Leonor, who turns seven in October, featured in her first photoshoot earlier this week, whilst her mother was also out and about, looking striking in block colours at the V de Vida awards ceremony on Wednesday.Letizia has commented that she plans to have a "quiet" celebration for her 40th birthday, spending time at home with her family.
