She may be the Queen's granddaughter, but Zara Phillips isn't afraid to have a giggle, as the blonde clearly demonstrated when she and her colleagues from Team GB's equestrian outfit danced 'Gangnam Style' for Children in Need. The novelty pop gem by Koren star Psy became a worldwide phenomenon thanks to its wacky dance routine. Now, it has the royal seal of approval and three new high profile recruits.
Kitted out in their jodhpurs and jackets, Zara and fellow silver medal winners Tina Cook and Nicola Wilson gave it their all for their number. The ladies will perform the bizarre dance as part of this year's Children In Need celebrations, which take place on Friday November 16. Given that the song's buoyant choreography is reminiscent of someone straddling a horse and holding the reins, Zara and her 'Gang' shouldn't be too lost when they take the floor. They join a host of Olympians who will star in a special video made for the annual fundraising event. As well as the 'Gangnam' girls, swimming sensation Rebecca Adlington and Paralympian Ellie Simmonds have joined forces for a rendition of dance outfit Basement Jaxx's hit, Do Your Thing. Hands in the air, with big smiles all round, both were in their element as they let their hair down in the name of charity. Spurred on by cheering fans, Ellie also played the trumpet for the tune's instrumental break.
Funniest of all was the men's rowing team who gave Beyonce's sugary girl anthem Single Ladies a thoroughly masculine makeover. They even threw their weight behind the sexy dance routine. Fans of Beyonce will no doubt tune in to see how well that translates on the night. It seems that music is one of the driving forces behind this year's Children In Need. Pop Goes the Musical is an initiative that sees celebrities joining the cast of well-known shows, and is now in mid-flow. In early October, British boyband Blue dropped in on Jersey Boys, which is set to the music of 60s rock and roll group The Four Seasons.
Then, Geri Halliwell wowed audiences when she took to the stage after the final curtain call of Singin' in the Rain and performed with the show's leading man, Adam Cooper. The pair gave an energetic rendition of Gene Kelly's iconic Singin' in the Rain scene. All the celebrity performances will help to raise vital funds for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.
