With Princess Eugenie behind the wheel, she and her sister Beatrice began their mission to support British industry in Germany. The young royals travelled in a Mini Cooper, fittingly emblazoned with a Union Jack, from Berlin's famous Brandenburg Gate to the British Embassy.Twenty-two-year-old Eugenie drove the 800 metre distance as her elder sister waved to those who turned out the greet them. As well its striking design the car also featured a fun number plate reading 'GR8 BR1TA1N' in keeping with the GREAT initiative that brought the ladies to the German capital.
To kick-start the campaign, which will promote the 'best of British', earlier in the day the sisters carried out a visit to the Berlin British School. Twenty-four-year-old Beatrice appropriately chose to wear an outfit by Scottish fashion designer Jonathan Saunders. Looking stylish in a pleated dark green dress, Beatrice completed her look with a thick black waist belt and matching heels. Looking happy and relaxed Beatrice spent time talking to members of a class and taking part in their activites, such as an exercise on hieroglyphics. The royal proudly showed off a piece of paper with her name written in the ancient Egyptian script before talking to pupil Alex Cunningham. The eight-year-old quizzed Beatrice about the Philip Treacy hat she wore for Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton. The blond youngster asked her who had designed the eye-catching creation which raised £81,100.01 for charity after she auctioned it.The pair then attended an assembly in the school hall where they unveiled a plaque commemorating their visit and signed the visitors' book before heading to the next stop on their schedule. The two-day trip marks the start of a year-long promotion of UK industry for the girls, who are now entering the world of work having finished their university education. In July 2012 Eugenie graduated from Newcastle University with a 2:1 in English Literature and Art a year after Beatrice left Goldsmith's University with a 2:1 in History and History of Ideas.
Their new role, which was suggested by the UK government and is not a royal duty, is similar to that which their father also undertook. Prince Andrew was an ambassador of British trade and industry spending ten years travelling the world promoting British business as the United Kingdom's Special Trade Representative. The Queen's son held the post from 2001 until July 2011 when he stepped down to focus more on evolving his role to concentrate on promoting British skills and exports. Friday will see the sisters travel west to the city of Hanover to champion British brands before returning to the UK. They have each taken annual leave from their current jobs to make the trip, Beatrice from her role at a venture capital firm and Eugenie from her art-based work experience. In preparation for the tour Beatrice was reportedly being briefed during lunch breaks at the company due to her busy work schedule.
