Katy Perry dons stars and stripes for Obama's Kids' Inauguration Concert

January 20, 2013

She showed her support throughout Barack Obama's re-election campaign, and now his second term is official who better to sing in the President than Katy Perry. In a fitting dress, adorned with stars and stripes, Katy performed for crowds at the Kids' Inaugural Concert on Saturday, before the official inauguration ceremonies on Sunday and Monday. Not one to do things by halves Katy's dress was made up of a bodice, waistcoat and skirt which she accessorised with colour-coordinated nail polish, heels and lipstick. She even sang her well-loved tracks, including Firework, into a star spangled microphone.

The Californian songstress is a fan of letting her outfits do the talking. In October, when the election race was hotting up, the 28-year-old displayed her political allegiance through a dress resembling a presidential ballot paper marked in favour of Hawaii-born Barack and Vice President Joe Biden. The event, held in Washington, was in honour of the children of military families across America and hosted by none other than the First Lady herself. In a smart outfit of black trousers, a white shirt and a yellow jewel-encrusted waist belt, Michelle Obama stepped out with her daughters Malia, 14 and 12-year-old Sasha.

American singer and dancer Usher also provided musical entertainment. Aware of his audience the 34-year-old U Got It Bad star praised the children for the sacrifices they have made as the result of their parents' jobs and encouraged youth activism, sentiments then echoed by Michelle. "You see, when we said we wanted to host a concert to honor our military kids" she said, "let me tell you, everyone wanted to be here.

"Usher wanted to be here, Katy Perry wanted to be here. Nick Cannon, the folks from Glee, and all the other amazing performers -- they wanted to be here, too. And let me tell you, they're not here for me. "They're not here for Dr. Biden. They are here for all of you. Because they know the kind of sacrifices that you all make every single day."
