Adorable Princess Athena keeps her cool

February 13, 2013

Princess Athena of Denmark was the talk of the pistes while she was on a family holiday in the Swiss resort of Villars. The youngest member of the Danish royal family was wrapped up in a cute dusky pink all-in-one snow suit. She also wore a grey knitted hat and a tiny pair of sunglasses while she was pulled along on a sledge.

The one-year-old was taken on the skiing break by parents Prince Joachim and Princess Marie of Denmark. She joined Prince Nikolai, 13, Prince Felix, 10 and Prince Henrik, 3. The family of six played happily in the snow and the boys even took their dad for a ride in the sledge.Little Athena Marguerite Françoise Marie is Marie's youngest child with Joachim. The happy couple, who wed in May 2008, are also proud parents to Prince Henrik. Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix are Prince Joachim's sons from his first marriage to Alexandra Christina, Countess of Frederiksborg. When Princess Athena turned one in January, her parents released a set of photos of their daughter to mark the important milestone. Dressed in a pretty blue patterned dress, Athena looked absolutely delightful in the series of relaxed snaps.

She has clearly inherited her mother's big brown eyes, which are beautifully captured in one picture as she stares directly down the camera lens. Another photograph shows her resting her little head with a favourite cuddly toy close by. Perhaps the most touching image though is one depicting both Athena and Marie. It shows mother and her daughter playing and laughing together on the floor, offering a glimpse of the beautiful bond shared between the pair. The Danish royals are a famously close family, and Joachim and Marie are very much ingratiated within the fold. Joachim's older brother, Crown Prince Frederik and his wife Crown Princess Mary are parents to four children.
