Princess Estelle of Sweden undertook her first royal engagement on Saturday.

At the tender age of just two, Sweden's future queen made her first official appearance at Linkoping castle, in the province of Östergötland, with her parents Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel.

The youngster, who is the Duchess of Östergötland, happily accepted flowers from her waiting fans while simultaneously beaming at the flag-bearing crowd.

Estelle, who is similar in age to Prince Christian of Denmark when he carried out his first engagement, walked hand-in-hand with her father as the royals arrived at the castle, before being scooped up into Daniel's arms for the last part of the walk.

Earlier in the day the royal trio opened the Fairytale Path at Lake Takern, much to the delight of the young princess.

Estelle looked slightly nervous as she came face-to-face with a large statue of a frog wearing a crown on the path, but never one to shy away — she reached out to stroke it.

The young princess's first royal engagement comes five weeks after her British contemporary

Prince George of Cambridge made his first official appearance while on tour in New Zealand.

George was aged just eight-months when he attended a playgroup at Government House in Wellington.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's son began his royal duties much earlier than his European counterparts, with Princess Ingrid of Norway starting aged five and Princess Elisabeth of Belgium officially attending a church service when she was four.By contrast, Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands and Princess Leonor of Spain have both been regularly taken part in family photocalls but have yet to undertake any formal engagements.
