It's official – Kate Middleton is the queen of style. The Duchess of Cambridge has been crowned the nation's favourite fashion icon, and interestingly it seems her appeal reaches across all the ages. The pregnant royal beat the likes of Cheryl Cole, Victoria Beckham and The Saturdays star Mollie King in a recent survey to find the best dressed British star, and an overwhelming one in three girls aged between 18 and 21 said they would most like to dress like Kate.
What's more, one in four 22-26 year-olds named her their number one style icon and just under half 27-55 year-olds also voted for the Duchess. It comes as no surprise that her sophisticated and elegant style is such a hit. While she steers clear of extreme high-end fashion, Kate does own some spectacular designer pieces in her wardrobe. But what really makes her the nation's favourite fashionista is her love of high-street shops like Topshop and Monsoon. Her purse-friendly choices have made royal style instantly accessible to everyone and have subsequently caused virtual stampedes as women rush to get their hands on a piece of Kate's wardrobe.
Demand has been so high for many of her outfits that styles and ranges inspired by the Duchess have popped up on both the high street and in designer collections – most notably her nude LK Bennett heels and, of course, that Issa engagement dress. As well as topping this most recent style survey, which was carried out by The Mall Luton, Kate is quickly becoming the poster girl for elegant maternity wear.On recent outings, she has dressed her growing bump in a series of classic designs that expertly flatter her changing figure. And with a busy calendar before she starts her maternity leave in June, we can happily look forward to plenty more lessons in sophisticated pregnancy style.
