Scandinavian royals confirm attendance at Dutch inauguration as full guest list is revealed

April 29, 2013

On Tuesday, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands will make her abdication official and hand the reins of the Dutch monarchy to her son Crown Prince Willem-Alexander, who will become king and convert his glamorous wife Princess Maxima into queen consort. With just one day to go, the full guest list for the Dutch inauguration has now been revealed and Scandinavia's royals have all confirmed their presence at the historic ceremony. Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik and his glamorous wife Princess Mary will watch Willem-Alexander become King of the Netherlands, as will Haakon and Mette-Marit of Norway.

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden will also be accompanied to the glamorous ceremony by her husband Prince Daniel. All of the royals, pictured together above, are good friends of Willem-Alexander and Maxima, so their attendance will have extra significance for the couple. Prince Albert of Monaco also confirmed he will join the largest gathering of royals since the Queen's Diamond Jubilee last year. Surprisingly, the Monegasque ruler will attend proceedings without his wife Princess Charlene, who wasn't named on the guest list. The last minute additions will join Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall at the celebrations, which begin with a glittering state dinner on Monday evening. Britain's representatives confirmed their attendance early, as did royal couples from Spain, Luxembourg and Japan.

On Monday morning, the VIP guests were seen arriving in the Netherlands. Princess Masako of Japan, making her first official overseas visit in nearly 11 years, was one of the first to touch down on Dutch soil. The Japanese royal keeps a low profile due to a stress-induced adjustment disorder but seemed in good spirits as she arrived with her husband Crown Prince Naruhito.
